In simple terms, there are basically two types of fantasy – fantasy that came before Lord of the Rings, and fantasy that came after. If you're a fantasy lover, you probably noticed a change in the genre following Peter Jackson's monumental adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved novels. No longer was the genre considered niche, but something of real substance, and something destined to earn big bucks for nearly every studio willing to foot the bill on a fantasy title.
